If you are running an older PHP shop platform today, O3-Shop is the lowest-risk path. Migrating to another platform is costly, risky, and disruptive. O3-Shop preserves the codebase you know and moves it forward responsibly — as an open-source project under GPL.
The software is free and will remain so. GPLv3 guarantees it. There are no maintenance contracts, no support fees, no license keys. If you pay, it is only to a service provider of your choice for clearly defined work.
O3-Shop is a fully volunteer-driven open-source project with no commercial operator. Initiated by Eric Jankowfsky (founder of OXID eSales) and Mario Zanier (founder of xt:Commerce); supported by a growing community of agencies and developers.
Yes. Several agencies with long-standing e-commerce experience are part of the O3 ecosystem. You hire them directly — the software stays open source with no hidden costs.
Development happens transparently on GitHub. Pull requests are discussed openly, reviewed by the consortium, and merged after joint evaluation. Security updates are highest priority.
O₃ is the chemical formula for ozone. The reaction with ozone is significantly stronger than ordinary oxidation — a tribute to the roots and a promise to go further.
