Make sure your system meets the following requirements. The fastest check comes from your hosting provider or a local shell.

• PHP 8.0 or higher (with the standard extensions: pdo_mysql, gd, mbstring, curl, intl, xml, zip)
• Composer 2.x
• MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.3+
• Web server — Apache recommended (document root is configured in step 3)
• SSH or FTP access to the target server
• Full requirements (PHP extensions, php.ini settings, web server configuration): official handbook ↗

Create a new Composer project in the target directory. Composer pulls the metapackage, all dependencies, and sets up the directory structure.

• ~1.7.0 installs the current 1.7.x release
• Without a version constraint, the latest official release is installed
• --no-dev skips development dependencies in production

After Composer is done, a few directories need write access for the web server — and the web server's document root needs to point at the right directory.

• HTTP server needs write access on: source/export, source/log, source/out/pictures, source/out/media, source/tmp, var
• During the web setup, also writable: source/Setup, source/config.inc.php, .env, source/.htaccess
• Document root points to the source/ directory — with most hosters this can be set directly in the domain or webspace management panel so the domain serves source/ straight away.
• AllowOverride All is enabled (default on most shared hosters) so the shop's .htaccess takes effect

Create a MySQL or MariaDB database, then open the setup wizard in the browser at https://yourshop.com/setup.

• Database name is your choice (example: o3_shop)
• Most hosters provide phpMyAdmin or a comparable tool
• The wizard walks you through: language → country & shop language → license → DB credentials → directory & admin login
• Demo data is optional, but recommended for getting started

After a successful setup, the /source/Setup directory is deleted automatically. To stay on the safe side, set the configuration files to read-only so writes are blocked.

• Verify that source/Setup has been removed
• Set source/config.inc.php to 0444 (read-only)
• Set .env to 0444 as well
• Open /admin and log in with the credentials you set in the wizard
